Whats New at Bald Mountain Coffee Company

We have been a little short-handed recently, as we are currently trying to focus our efforts on the upcoming busy season! Until then, we have left the archive of past informations below for your browsing.

Check back in the near future, we are looking at new product lines to carry constantly, and will post them in this section after they have been tested and are available!

02/22/2011 - We have recently moved to a web-based customer service system. If you need assitance with a specific order that has already been placed, the best way to access our customer service is to click the customer service link at the bottom of the email you received for that specific order. If you cannot locate the email for your original order, you can also access our customer service system at the following link: http://baldmountaincoffee.com/page/BMCC/CTGY/Contact_Us.

12/15/2010 - We have recently updated and improved our return polices and processes! Hopefully this will help to streamline things and make everyone a little more happy :) Our new policy and procedures for returning items can be seen here - Check out our new return policies!

01/15/2009 - Well, we swam our way through the Holidays, and now are trying to keep warm in a frigid January!

It looks like we have finally been able to catch up with all of the Technivorm backorders, our stocks are finally replenished, and hopefully they will be in stock for a while now. The temporary shortage on Technivorm MoccaMaster units was due to a combination the manufacturer shutting down for the month of August - traditional for many European companies, which put production behind a bit - and Technivorms recent exposure in several publications, including Cooks Illustrated magazine, where they rated the Technivorm Thermo KBT741 the #1 coffee maker on the market! Cooks Illustrated is similar to Consumer Reports, but geared more towards kitchen and cooking gadgets and appliances. They have an unbiased viewpoint, and put logic and good testing behind their test results and recommendations.

Also for a second year straight, Bald Mountain Coffee and our Thermos Nissan line of NSF Serving Carafes were featured in both Cooks Illustrated and Cooks Country for being the best built Thermal Coffee Serving Carafes available! This probably also attributed to the manufacturer running out of units, and now are backordered until mid May, 2009... Until then, we are taking pre-orders for units, and will ship them out accordingly once they are back in stock.

Unfortunately, SwissGold has discontinued quite a few models of their Gold Coffee Filters, mostly the flat bottom style of filters, and are no longer available on the US market... maybe someday theyll be back? who knows... We still carry the one and only #4 filter that seems to be the size of choice for most newer machines available on the market, including our Technivorm units.

We are also currently in search of what seems to be the impossible... in a world of imports from around the globe, its really hard to find coffee related products that are built in the good ole U.S.A.! We are scouring, and will let you know what we find, but in the meantime, if you see good quality coffee related products on the market that are made in USA, drop us a line and let us know!... We are interested in supporting our American customer base in any ways possible! Americans helping Americans is one way to help get this country of ours back on the road! Please let us know what you find!

It looks as though our telephone company has ironed out the issues with our toll-free number... starting January 12th, our toll-free number was non-functional for up to 2 days, and incoming calls were only able to get through to our voicemail system. They have since got us back on track and the 866 number is once again working. Sorry about that!

09/03/2008 - ... I think we probably need to update this section a little more frequently, as a lot has changed since the last update over a year ago!

We have completed our move to the new location in Salem, OH. We needed the extra space, our previous location was just a little over-crowded! The new location will help to accomodate new product lines that are coming on board soon, hopefully by early fall we will be featuring a few new gadgets. We dont like to rush into new products without researching, and testing them first, as there is just a lot of junk on the market. We take our time and weed through it all, and only select what we believe are the best products, and what we know our customers will be happy with.

Along with our location change, our contact information has also changed, please use the following contact information:

Bald Mountain Coffee Company
7040 Salem Unity Rd.
Salem, OH 44460

Bald Mountain Coffee and our Thermos Nissan line of serving carafes were recently featured in the October 2008 issue of Cooks Illustrated magazine, in which they got a very high rating for top quality, as well as our company being featured in the magazine. Bald Mountain Coffee, as well as the same line of carafes, were also featured in the May 2007 issue of Cooks Country magazine. Both Cooks Illustrated and Cooks Country are publications of Americas Test Kitchens, which is the #1 rated food show on PBS. Their concept is similar to Consumers Reports publications, but specializing in the food service industry, where they test products, and report back to consumers which products are best quality, and which products to stay away from. These publications do not accept advertising, etc.. which helps to keep all cards above the table when it comes to integrity, honesty and straight forward test results.

New shipments of Zassenhaus Coffee Mills have been a little sporadic, but we are expecting a new shipment of mills to arrive during the September, October timeframe. We will be shipping any pre-ordered mills once our shipment arrives.

07/23/2007 - Late last week, after nearly a two year furlough, we received the first shipment of coffee mills since Zassenhaus restarted production earlier this year. The mills look very nice, as nice as they as they ever did. We were glad to see the quality and craftsmanship built into the mills is right up to snuff with the reputation Zassenhaus has been building since 1857. Although the shipment of mills was not fully received, we were able to fill a ton of customer pre-orders, and even have a few mills left over, which can be found on our Zassenhaus Mill Pages. At this point, we do not have an ETA available of our next shipment, to be notified when the mill of your choice comes available, click the Notify Me button on on the mills page. Visit our Zassenhaus Mills selection.

In the midst of all the craziness, we realized we never mentioned an amazingly wonderful selection of 2007 crop coffees that arrived last month, the majority of which were Centrals, as well as a nice selection from the thither regions of the world. We were also particularly pleased with the selection of Centrals, all coming in very bright and fresh, and from a wide variety of regions... and a few micro regions as well. Vist our Fine selection of Green Coffees.

05/07/2007 - Zassenhaus Mill update: Well, after a long anticipated wait, it looks as if Zassenhaus is again producing mills. Zassenhaus International is under new owners, and new management, although it still remains a German company, and the mills remain to be German built mills, which we were glad to hear!

Our closest preliminary arrival date we have as of yet is approximately mid May, 2007, give or take 2 weeks or so. We will keep all customers up to date via email on their actual order ship date. Once we receive our shipment of mills, any pre-purchased mills will be sent out in the order they were received in, your credit card will not actually be charged until your order ships. All pre-purchased mills will ship out the moment they arrive in our warehouse, unless your order is cancelled before its ship date. We will not be contacting customers to confirm their orders before shipping.

02/01/2007 - Update to available shipping options: Starting February 1st, 2007, we have switched our standard Ground shipping from FedEx to UPS. All orders placed after February 1st will be offered our very competitive UPS rates, rather than our previous FedEx rates. In addition to UPS shipping options, we still offer great service thru United States Postal Service, available to domestic, as well as international customers.

Well, as of right now it seems the Zassenhaus Coffee Mills may never be coming back, Zassenhaus hasnt had any production as far as we have seen for the past year or longer... It does not look good folks :

No more information concerning Zassenhaus is available at this time.

Many of our Thermos Vacuum Insulated products, as well as other products, were wiped out during last holiday season, and are back ordered from the manufacturer.... apparently their stocks also got wiped out from the holidays! We are expecting the majority of back ordered items to be back in stock early the 1st quarter of 2007. If there is a particular item you have interest in that is out of stock, dont despair, just click on the Notify Me button on that product page, enter you email address, and you will be notified when it again is available.

Check back at BaldMountainCoffee.com within the next few weeks, as we will be adding a few new items to our shelves... we are constantly scouring for quality coffee related products, and intend in offering only great products for our customers!

06/09/2006 - During last weekend, we introduced quite a few new coffees in our Green Coffees section, many of them new beans we have not stocked in the past, and even some oldies from the past that were just waiting to return. After cupping through most of the samples myself, I really do believe we have some of the best coffees offered throughout the world.

Zassenhaus update:... or lack of should we say. The 1st quarter of 2006 came and went, as did the 2nd, and still no Zassenhaus Mills. Frustrating, isnt it? We still do not have any concrete word of if and when the Zassenhaus Mills will be returning. As always, when you see a product on our site that is out of stock, just click on the Notify Me button to be immediately notified when that product is once again available. We do not accept pre-orders on any items, and its a good thing, because we would have quite a few orders over 20 months old by now for a few of the Zassenhaus mills! We just dont believe in taking our customers money in advance, and making promises for products we are not 100% certain that we can fulfill.

Also over the last week or two, weve added quite a few new items from Thermos Nissan, which I must say is really nice stuff! All of the Thermos Nissan items carried at Bald Mountain are high quality vacuum insulated items, and maintain temperatures much longer than other methods of thermal insulation. Nobody does a nicer job at temperature retention than Thermos Nissan. Many of the Thermos Nissan items you see in large discount stores are in fact foam insulateditems and just dont stack up to the vacuum insulated units we carry.

We have also recently introduced the Aeropress Coffee extraction System... makes a really nice coffee concentrate that can be diluted with hot water, or can even be used for making a nice cappuccino. The Aeropress unit is lighweight and portable, and is perfect for an on-the-road coffee making solution, whether youll be staying in a hotel room, or camping. The Aeropress can be found under our Coffee Brewers section.

During the very early hours of Thursday morning (06/08/06) the BaldMountainCoffee.com web server experienced a hardware failure which brought the web server to a standstill. Allthough telephone orders were churning as normal, our internet order processing was temporarily delayed until the system could be brought back online on 06/09/2006 - 20:00 after replacing a failed scsi RAID controller. All data integrity was maintained during the outage and any data loss was successfully kept at a minimum. Our apology for the inconvenience.

03/27/2006 - Ok, finally a chance to update everyone with whats new on Bald Mountain!

We hoped to have a full stock of our Zassenhaus mills by now, but apparently Zassenhaus is still having logistcal issues in being able to provide product as they did in the past, hopefully they get things worked out in the near future. We have looked at a few other coffee hand mills from other manufacturers, so far, we just havent found the quailty and care put into them as Zassenhaus has been famous for in the past.

For those who are seeking particular coffees that may be out of stock, you may wish to re-visit our site in the next week or two, as we are expecting a large shipment of new coffees, some oldies will again be back in stock, and also quite a few new coffees that we have not carried in the past. Notifications will be sent as always, immediately after our new coffees are available for those who have opted to be notified. Hopefully, our shipments will be able to clear customs in a timely manner!

Over the past few weeks, we have switched our primary shipping location to our Salem, Ohio facility. All orders shipped from Bald Mountain Coffee are now fulfilled from Salem, Ohio, ZIP 44460. Our primary administrative offices continue to be located in Auburn Hills, Michigan. This change should make shipping a bit more affordable for the majority of our customers, as our new facility is a bit more centrally located to everyone.

01/12/2006 - Just a short update to note changes that have been made since we last updated this section:

We hope everybody had a Merry Christmas, and wish for a prosperous 2006! The holiday rush cleared a few items from our stock, were currently working to replenish our inventories, and should be back to normal within the next week or so.

Zassenhaus Mills are still hard to come by, I anticipate not seeing anything coming from Zassenhaus for a few months, but who knows... were still waiting on mills from pre-Christmas 2004, and it doesnt look like things will change at Zassenhaus anytime soon. If you see a mill that you are interested in, but thats out of stock, just click on the Notify Me button located on the items page, and your email address will be added. You will be notified immediately when that model arrives. We currently do not accept pre-orders on out of stock items, as we feel it makes for customer discontent, and we dont think that making commitments to orders were just not sure if we can fulfill is a very good idea!

U.S. Priority Mail Rates:
As you may know, the U.S. Postal Service has increased shipping rates for U.S. Priority Mail. The change went into effect on January 8th, and we saw a $0.40 to $0.60 increase per package shipped. We have made adjustments in our shipping charges to cover the cost of the new rate increase. We still provide the option of using Fedex services, along with U.S. Priority Mail to give our customers a full range of shipping options.

11/17/2005 - Snow! It snowed today :

I guess we shouldnt be surprised, it is the middle of November, and this is Michigan...

As youve probably noticed, our stock of Zassenhaus Coffee Mills has seriously depleted over the past year, and is nearing the point of non-existence. Apparently, shake-ups have hit home at Zassenhaus, amidst rumor of supplier troubles for them. Who knows, hopefully one day they will get things back in order, and start churning out great product like they have been famous for in the past century and a half... Until then, you can at least look at their mills on our site!

Hearthware has announced they are in fact discontinuing the original I-Roast Coffee Roaster. Production of the new I-Roast 2 will remain as is. Originally, Hearthware claimed that they would NOT be ceasing production on the I-Roast, but.. take that for what it is...

We have finally released our gift certificates for purchase online! Our certificates make a great gift for any coffee loving person, and for any occasion. They are very simple to purchase, and also as simple to redeem. Completely hassle free. You may choose to have certificates delivered to the recipient via email, U.S. Priority Mail, or just recieve the certificate yourself, and hand deliver it yourself... whatever works for you! For more information, or to purchase a certificate, just click here.

Last month, we also introduced our new notification list, to notify our cutomers when we are running any promotional offerings. Many customers asked to be notified in advance of our specials, hence, our new creation! To be included in our advance notifications, you may enter your information here. Dont worry, we dont have a bad habit of sending our Customers junk email. Our notifications are few & far between. We also do not - and never have - distribute, sell, or trade our customers email addresses, to anyone. In fact, youll only here from us occasionally, and ONLY when we feel we have something substantial to offer our customers as a special promotion. If you find our offers were just not meant for you, you may choose to opt out of receiving our notifications at any time, with the click of your mouse, completely hassle free... We think youll be glad you signed up!

08/19/2005 - Mosquitoes! We currently have 2 sizes of mosquitoes here on Bald Mountain, and theyre driving us nuts! The large ones (sometimes resemble small flying squirrels) seem to appear first earlier in the year, and the smaller ones come out a month or two later. They may be smaller, in fact, they look kind of like a gnat, yep, that small... I guess thats why they call them "noseeums". They sure pack a punch, and theyre ruthless...

Although kind of late to mention it now... maybe some of you had already noticed... Bald Mountain Coffee Company products featured in the June 20th, 2005 subscribers edition of Sports Illustrated. Although the feaure wasnt intended to be informative or educational, Time Warner did feature some very nice products, both coffee related, and not. They sure know how to take a nice photo shoot!

Anyhow, weve grown a bit more than last weve updated this section. Weve added a fine line of Thermos Nissan Vaccum insulated items, weve made the decision to only carry the Thermos Nissan items that incorporate Thermos Thermax™ Vacuum technology. They do make quite a few nice foam insulated products, but from our test and observations, none of them stack up close to their Thermax™ counterparts. You just cant beat vacuum insulation when trying to maintain temperatures.

Last week, Hearthware introduced their new Hearthware I-Roast 2 to the retail market. We received a test unit early on, and have been putting it through it paces... well publish our results sometime next week. Our testing should be complete by the beginning of next week. We do not like offering any items for sale that we havent at least tested ourselves, which explains why they arent on our shelves as soon as theyre available. We did find something interesting about the Hearthware 2 that was a little unexpected... The preset 1, unlike the Hearthware I-Roast Classic, did not move through its roasting stages as expected. As it turns out, Hearthware apparently intentionally re-programmed Preset 1 to mimic the roast characteristics of the I-Roasts earlier predecessor, The Hearthware Precision. The Precision was Hearthwares first Coffee Roaster unit, and was a very popular model, both in its design, its price, and its roast profile. The Preset 1 now takes its time with a gradual increase in tempertaure over a longer period of time, then finshes off with a fairly high constant 450 degree target temperature. Hearthware has recommended using half the amount of beans when using Preset 1. For Preset 2, use the recommended amount as usual. The nicest thing weve seen in the I-Roast II is its ability to store roasting curves. The curves can be re-programmed, saved, deleted, and recalled at will, and it doesnt lose them even after unplugging the unit! A very nice feature indeed. If our testing completes in the next few days as expected, the I-Roast 2 should be available for purchase at Bald Mountain Coffee.

Check back in the next few weeks, we have quite a few new coffees arriving, and are expecting to have one of the largest stocks of coffee ever! We take pride in our selection of fine coffees, and strive to only offer the best coffees available.

05/13/2005 - Ok, Ok... We realize this page gets negelcted way too frequently, our apology... But in the neglect, youll see weve added lots of new exciting products and programs at Bald Mountain Coffee Company! Weve been busy testing, cupping, looking at new innovative products in the Coffee industry. Our time is used wisely :) Some products passed our judgement, some did not... The ones that made it through our test can now be found in our online shop. From this years current crop of fine coffees, to the last stage of the life of a bean, youll be able to find it here! Check back in the near future to catch a glimpse of some new programs well be offering in the near future.

Weve recently added quite a bit of coffee educational materials to our shelves due to overwhelming customer feedback. Look for these products under our BOOKS category... also find an very informative first eye view of coffee cupping, and the process on DVD, also found under the BOOKS section.

Coffee prices have increased considerably this year due to market fluctuations, and also due to the fact that many countries, just had a bad year for coffee in general. Many of the far-eastern coffees in particular have sky-rocketed in price, some can still be found at a bargain, many cannot be found at all...

The Hearthware I-Roast still is one of the best coffee roasters available for home roasters, some minor changes have taken place since the first models were released, all engineering changes involved were to improve the units. See details on our I-Roast page.

Some bad news:
Zassenhaus, producer of the finest hand-crafted coffee mills on the market, had some turmoil within the past year which has affected their production, and also has caused some coffee mills to be completely discontinued. We could not believe when we heard of their discontinuation of their line of fine Wall Mills, theyve made those things forever it seems... what a shame.

Some good news!:
Were currently expecting our next long-awaited shipment of Zassenhaus coffee mills somewhere around the end of May, 2005, weve already confirmed that it has left dock from Germany. If you find a mill thats marked out of stock, click on the NOTIFY ME button to add your email address to a notification list, to be notified when they are back on our shelves.

Other good news is that weve also recently added a few additional shipping methods to choose from while completing your order. The new U.S. Post Priority Flax rate box option allows for up to 12 lbs of green beans (or ~10 lbs of monsooned coffees) to be shipped at a flat rate, anywhere within the United States (including Hawaii and Alaska)! This greatly reduces the cost for many of our customers for that poundage range. Our aim is to ship all orders effectively and accurately, with the most minimal cost impact to all.

Allright, thats enough for now...

07/19/2004 - Hearthware I-Roast:
The new Hearthware I-Roast really has proven itself to be the most versatile home coffee roaster on the market. Given itsease of use, careful quality design, reliability, durability, programmability, along with all its built in features, its a tough one to beat! Were offering the I-Roast, (as well as all of our other Home Coffee Roasters), with your choice of one of our Bald Mountain Coffee Regional Coffee Samplers at a steep discount.

New Coffee Arrivals:
Weve received quite a few new green coffee arrivals over the past month our two. Youll find the Indian Mysore Nuggets, are a smooth and buttery joy, and the new auction lot & Peaberry Kenyans are outstanding and bright! Still arent finding what youre looking for? Just send us a quick note to orders @ BaldMountainCoffee.com to let us know! Well do our best to get in on our shelves.

Website:
Yep, weve made changes. A lot of them! We think most are for the better. Our shop is the same as its always been... simple and to the point, just a few rough edges knocked off. Check back in the near future, well be offering more exciting shopping options for our customers.

Shipping Options:
After receiving overwhelming customer response and some negotiation with our shipping suppliers, weve switched back to FedEx as our primary shipping partner! Weve been able to negotiate some of the best rates youll find in the shipping industry. With the new rates, we think most of our customers will see a substantial savings in their shipping expenses.

Payment options:
In addition to using Mastercard, Visa, Paypal, and personal check to our payment option, weve recently introduced the ability for our customers to use American Express & Discover Cards during checkout! We hope this will make everyones shopping experience here, more pleasant. Weve also eliminated the acceptance of PayPal from our payment options, due to our new wider range of choices.

03/04/2004 - Well its about time this thing got updated... whew! Weve made quite a few changes here since the last update, well try to cover them all:

IE6 issues: Some of our customers have reported problems during the checkout process at BaldMountainCoffee.com, (as well as other e-commerce sites on the net). Weve tracked the culprit down to the latest set of Internet Explorer updates for IE6. Microsoft is aware of the problem, and has issued a downloadable fix to fix their broken update. It will eventually be released as an automatic windows update, but until then, if you are using IE6, and experiencing troubles during checkout, Microsoft has a fix for their browser HERE.

Hearthware I-Roast: Well. we received our pre-production I-Roast prototype back in the fall of last year, and have been using it rigorously since then. The unit stands up to what we think will be a great unit for our home roasters, and their most reliable roaster yet! You will find our review of the unit under our "Coffee Roasters" section. Hearthware has time after time delayed the release of production units since late last year, and are now estimating a release date of somewhere around the first of April, 2004. It is frustrating to those who are awaiting its arrival, but we assure you, its better than sending your broken roaster back to the factory before you even get a chance to get a good roast out of it. The I-Roast truely is a nice roaster, and very well built! Steep discounts on our Green Bean Samplers will be offered with the purchase of an I-Roast.

Shipping: We have switched over to U.P.S. as our primary means of shipping. After having encountered some issues with Fedex, and although U.P.S. in most cases, a little more costly, we feel that the service is also quite a bit more professional and reliable. In the end, we hope it also makes for happier customers.

International Shipping: Due to recent changes (particularly in the Canadian delivery regulations), weve limited shipping options to include only those services that have the newly implemented "Brokerage Fees" already built in to our shipping prices. This way, our international customers will not be surprised by having to pay the additional funds to the guy at the border with the funny hat, just to get their packages delivered. We hated doing this, but surprises are not good, and in some cases, very costly.

Lots of new and exciting changes are happening at Bald Mountain Coffee within the next few weeks, so stop back and let us know what you think, wed be glad to hear from you.

08/16/2003- Bald Mountain Coffee was affected by the recent power outages, due to the electrical grid problems in the North Eastern United States. As of the morning of August 16th, were back to normal! (and we hope to stay that way!) Any orders placed between August 14th, and August 17th will be shipped out on Monday, August 18th. Sorry for any inconvenience this has caused.

On another note... We have recently adjusted our shipping charges to reflect recent pricing structure changes from our carriers. For the most part, our customers wont see much of a change, mainly changes for the international customers. We still have some of the best shipping prices, and shipping options within our industry!!

We have recently changed our pricing on our Alpenrost units. The price was dropped considerably, and we are no longer shipping the units free of charge. This makes the units more attrcative to some, less attrcative to others that are a further distance from our warehouse. All in all, the majority of our customers should actually see a small savings.

05/30/2003- Swissmar Alpenrostsare now back in stock and available immediately at Bald Mountain Coffee! Same great price as always, and FREE SHIPPING to the lower 48 States! You also receive an option to choose from one of our fine Regional Green Bean Samplers, at a steep discount!

The Alpenrost remains to be our #1 favorite roaster for home usage, were sure youll enjoy it as much as we do! Its truly a Roasters Roaster.

05/22/2003- After a long awaited period, the Swissmar Alpenrost rotary drum coffee roaster will soon be back in stock! We should be receiving our shipment of Alpenrosts late this week (5/22-5/23) or early next week (05/26). The new units have a minor change to the placement of the temperature sensor, which should allow for a more accurate/consistent roast. We ship our Alpenrosts with FREE SHIPPING within the lower 48 States, and also offer a great deal on Regional Green Coffee Samplers (all regions) when purchasing an Alpenrost home coffee roaster.

We have recently adjusted our shipping rates to reflect recent discounts we have received from our shipping partners!! This means an even greater savings for customers when shopping at Bald Mountain Coffee Company. You wont find better rates or more shipping selections than we have!

We will be receiving a shipment of rare Zassenhaus coffee burr mills that are not normally available in the U.S. within the next 2-3 weeks. Stop back soon to check them out!
