There are two basic types of lids available, brew-in lids, which allow you to brew directly from your machine into the carafe, while still holding temperatures, and the lever action style lids which allow for simple thumb action pouring. Lids are discounted when purchased together with a carafe. The color coding ir normally used to signify whether the carafes contents are decaf, non-decaf coffee, tea, or water and help to avoid confusion in a multi-carafe environment!
