The thermal carafe helps to keep your coffee hotter for extended periods of time, without the scorched taste of coffee that has sat too long on a hot burner. If you have the need for coffee to stay hotter, fresher, for a longer periods of time, we recommend a Technivorm thermal coffee maker. All Technivorm units include an adjustable brew basket, which allows longer, or shorter coffee-water contact times, and also serves as a quick way to stop the flow to grab a cup before the brew process is complete, which we do not recommend, as this will affect the overall quality of the entire pot, as well as risk an overflowing basket if you forget to move it back into its proper position! Technivorm manufactures home coffee brewers in two basic categories, units that incorporate a thermal carafe for keeping your brew hot for an extended period of time, and units without a thermal carafe, but with a separate heating element to keep your brew piping hot! If you go through your pot fairly quickly, as in a busy office environment, the need for a unit with a thermal carafe may be over-kill.
